3) The 'POKO' Perfins |

The "POKO" was a German machine introduced into Great Britain around 1910. However, the First World War would not have made German machinary being very popular and so this initial introduction was not a success.

However the machine was re-introduced in around 1925, along with a distinctive standardised alphabet. The alphabet is characterised by many serrifed letters.

The "POKO" machine used coils of stamps which the machine both perforated and applied to the envelope. The stamps often turn up with partially trimmed perforations typical of coil stamps in general.
