CORNER LETTERS

NEXT>

2) VARIETIES

Displaced K [3K] Displaced T [3K] Displaced C [3K]

With the exception of Die 2 plates 50 and 51, the corner letters were inserted using a hand punch. This often resulted in heavilly misplaced letters, particularly on early plates.

Dot Right of J [2K] Double Strike of C [2K]

It took many strikes of the puch to produce the letter. Ocasionally the puch would move between strikes resulting in th doubling of letters.

K converted to L [4K] K converted to M [4K]

In some cases the incorrect letter was punched. This would be corrected but would almost certainly leave traces of the original letter. This can be seen in the two pictures above where originally a letter 'K' had been punched.

P Converted to R [3K]

Perhaps as a result of the correct letter not being available, another letter would be used and then hand modified, such as the letter 'P' being converted to an 'R'.
