A "multipositive" is a glass photographic plate on which the master
negative is projected, using a step and repeat camera. Two multipositives are
used, one for the Queens outline and background and the second for the value.
Initially this was a manual process but later became automated. However the
manual placement could lead to significant variations in the position of the
value relative to the Queens.

Perhaps the most striking difference is encountered with the 10p stamp issued in booklets, although all of the stamps in that booklet
have the value positioned particularly low.
